Orcas are intelligent, highly socialised mammals with strong matriarchal family bonds. Three distinct groups of orcas live in the Salish Sea, each with their own diet and language. Southern Resident Orcas feed almost exclusively on chinook salmon, making them extremely susceptible to changes in chinook salmon stocks. Transient Orcas eat other marine mammals such as seals, sea lions and porpoises. Offshore orcas eat sharks and other fish and are generally smaller and have more rounded fins.
