Eelgrass beds are vital to the health of coastal ecosystems, from providing food and habitat for marine animals, to cleaning the water and stabilizing the shoreline and seafloor sediments. Many species use eelgrass beds as areas of refuge and as nurseries for their young. Herring lay their eggs on the grass stems. In this piece, spot the chum salmon, kelp greenling, lingcod, shiner perch, nudibranch, and jellies.
