Found aluminum cans (16)
Installation view
These salmon sculptures are part of a series of canned salmon made entirely out of aluminum beer and pop cans found in and alongside the South Alouette River in Maple Ridge, BC. Each salmon is made from multiple cans, cut into sheets and formed into the shapes of swimming salmon. The can labels remain visible. The life-sized salmon are made from approxinately 16 cans, while the smaller salmon are made from 1 - 4 cans.
The sculptures question what we want our waterways to be filled with – wild salmon living in clean, natural habitat and supporting a web of life, or carelessly disposed of garbage.
